Daily Driver2015 Tesla Model S
Added March 4, 2026
With just 11,296 miles on the clock, this gray Model S 70D is about as close to a modern time-capsule territory as you'll find in the used EV market.
The Model S fundamentally rewrote the rules when it arrived in 2012, and by 2015 Tesla had refined the formula considerably. The 70D — introduced that year — replaced the rear-wheel-drive 70 as the base configuration, bringing dual-motor all-wheel drive standard. With roughly 329 combined horsepower and a EPA-rated range of 240 miles, the 70D was never the performance flagship, but with 0 RPM electric torque it wasn't a slouch either. The 70D was always the sensible one: composed, capable, and quiet in a way that made every commute feel slightly futuristic.
What makes this specific example stand out is the mileage. Eleven thousand miles over nine years is an almost suspiciously light use pattern, roughly 1,250 miles annually. That tells a story worth investigating: was this a garage queen, a second car, or something that sat through a period of disuse? Low mileage on an EV isn't purely a positive. Battery conditioning benefits from regular cycling, and cars that sit can develop issues with tire flat spots, suspension bushings, and 12V auxiliary battery health. The clean title is encouraging, but a look at the service history could be enlightening
The 70D's battery pack warrants specific attention. Request a battery health report through the Tesla app or service portal — degradation on a lightly driven 2015 example could actually be lower than higher-mileage peers, but thermal management history matters. Also verify that Autopilot hardware generation (this will be AP1, with Mobileye-based hardware), check for any outstanding recall completions, and confirm over-the-air software update status. The center console design and media control unit (MCU1) on this vintage are dated by current standards, but still more clean and usable than many other cars on the market today.
At $21,500 with a clean title and barely broken-in odometer reading, this 70D represents a rare intersection of price, condition, and capability. Though it's unlikely to strike a passion in your heart, or give you any range-anxiety-free road trips, as a gray, quiet, all-wheel-drive daily driver, it's difficult to argue with.
